Why Sax?
Sax is a town where there are no traffic lights, no paid parking, and it is very easy to park very close to the door of your house, this town is only 30 minutes from Alicante airport and 35 minutes from the beach. Access is by the A-31 Alicante-Madrid highway that runs on the outskirts of the town, by train and bus from Alicante so that you can go to the beach and do not have to take the car, and now we are only five minutes from the AVE Station in Villena. The AVE is the high-speed train from Alicante to Madrid that only has four stops and we are five minutes from a station that will take you on board in Madrid in 2h 9min for only € 20.

Let’s stay with the city of Sax for now instead of escaping to the beach or the capital of Spain. Sax is dominated by its 13th century castle known as Headlight And Guardian Of The Border, a landscape of history and rock. When driving back to Sax after sunrise, the view of the castle, fully illuminated and seemingly floating in the air, is one of the most welcoming and most beautiful views in all the surroundings.

Sax is a prosperous town, with opportunities, jobs and many places that offer all the required services. We have recently seen the opening of a Consum supermarket, the equivalent of Waitrose or Marks & Spencer Food Hall, while there has been a Hiperber and Mas y Mas, both excellent supermarkets for as long as I can remember, and if that’s not the case, enough that there is a Carrefour (Think Tesco) within an eight-minute drive within a shopping center complex that has two cinemas, one of which shows films in English with Spanish subtitles.

Sax has several schools, kindergartens and a good quality institute, all of which are really close to home.
There are now three language schools in the city and the city council has launched a language exchange plan that may work again. Learning Spanish is much less difficult than it sounds and there are new ways to learn that focus on Spanish.

In health, Sax and Spain, in general, is much higher than the United Kingdom. In the village, we have a new health center with eight doctors, two nurses, diabetes clinics, and a 24/7 walk-in emergency center. Ten minutes away, in Elda, is the remarkable and award-winning El Virgen De Salud University Hospital, where the surgeons are second to none and the food is appalling, well, not everything can be good! Recently opened is the Fibromyalgia center that offers support and therapies for those suffering from acute pain.

There are many restaurants and bars with incredible prices and a good quality three or four course lunch can easily be found for € 10 or less. For a special occasion, there is Casa Mami and La Torreta, which are a bit more expensive but you can have excellent gastronomic experiences. Near Villena, ten minutes or so down the A31, has some excellent restaurants, including the very trendy Gastronomy de Titas. Coffee and toast for breakfast will cost no more than € 2 and the coffee is possibly the best in Europe.
